What is Neurodivergence / Neurodiversity?

Imagine a DJ mixing console with dozens of sliders. Every person has their own unique mix of settings — some sliders turned up, some turned down, some in the middle. That is neurodiversity: the natural variety in how brains work. Neurodivergence means that some of your sliders are set differently than what society considers "typical." It is not about being broken — it is about a different mix at the console. A slider that is turned all the way up can be an extraordinary strength in one context and a challenge in another. The mix counts, not a single setting.

Neurodiversity-sensitive therapy

In my therapeutic work, this means: Together with you, I look at which of your sliders are set in which way — not to turn them back to a "normal level," but to understand which mix belongs to you. Some sliders can be shifted if you wish, others perhaps not — and that is okay. Therapy here does not mean adapting to a norm, but finding a way of handling your own console that fits you and your life. We look at which contexts your settings are strengths, which ones they are challenges, and how you can cope with the latter — without viewing your neurodivergence as a deficit, but as part of who you are.
